Abdominoplasty / Tummy Tuck

Procedure Description

Abdominoplasty: Tummy tuck surgery, also known as abdominoplasty creates a smooth abdominal contour by removing excess skin and fat and tightening abdominal wall muscle.

This procedure restores the normal position and tone of separated muscles caused by aging, pregnancy, significant weight loss and damage from previous abdominal surgeries. An abdominoplasty is performed in an operating room under general anesthesia, and normally takes two to three hours.

The regular recovery period is two weeks to get back to normal light duty everyday activities. It will be five to six weeks before completely returning to all normal activities including light exercise, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting will require recovery from ten to twelve weeks, because this is the recovery time for complete healing of the muscle tightening.

The skin incision heals more quickly. There is initial swelling that will disappear over a two- to three-month period, however there is residual swelling which will require a full year to disappear completely. The best part is that although you will love the way you look at the end of three months your abdomen will continue to become tighter and flatter over a full year or more with no further effort.

There are also Mini  and Extended Tummy Tucks which can be done to address individual circumstances. Mini tucks are extremely effective for redundant skin above the pubis which is common after childbirth. This procedure is less costly and recovery is shorter Extended abdominoplasty is intended for the most extensive cases of redundant skin and can yield amazing results with the same recovery time.
